• As a Senior Software Engineer, you are responsible for the development, performance, and scaling of our backend services and internal systems. You will work independently, own complex technical work end to end, make and guide technical decisions within your team, and communicate across teams to align on solutions.

• Rapidly developing scalable, flexible, and high-performance systems, while taking
  end-to-end ownership of service health and performance by monitoring and improving
  SLIs and SLOs.
  ● Solving issues with the site and internal systems, prioritizing based on customer impact,
  leading root-cause analysis, and implementing lasting fixes.
  ● Communicating about issues with technical and non-technical audiences and driving
  cross-team discussions toward solution alignment.
  ● Testing our systems; Booking.com runs thousands of experiments at a time and has built
  one of the industry's most advanced A/B testing platforms.
  ● Evaluating customer needs and identifying suitable solutions, while assessing
  programming languages (e.g., Perl and Java), architecture, dependencies, and risks.
  Estimating the effort and impact of complex work.
  ● Contributing to Booking.com's growth through interviewing, onboarding, or other
  recruitment efforts, and providing technical guidance and support to team members on
  engineering practices.
  
  At least 5 years of software development experience, with experience using two or more
  server-side programming languages.
  ● Proven experience with backend or distributed systems and API or service-contract
  design, including the ability to lead the design and delivery of complex solutions.
  ● Proven experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL, or comparable relational databases,
  including strong understanding of data integrity and query performance.
  ● Strong testing, production troubleshooting, and observability skills, with experience
  owning services in production.
  ● Strong architectural judgment—the ability to evaluate design options, dependencies,
  effort, impact, and risk—and experience driving cross-team technical discussions toward
  solution alignment.
  ● Experience working on products that serve a large customer base is an advantage.
  ● Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
  ● Excellent communication skills, with strong written and good spoken proficiency in
  English and Chinese.
